Frequently Asked Questions
Ramakrishna Electrical Winding Works (RKELC) is a specialist in industrial rotating electrical machines, providing repair, rewinding, refurbishment, testing and engineering services for motors, generators and transformers used in power generation, oil and gas, metals, mining and process industries.
We handle AC and DC motors, generators, alternators, transformers and turbines from small industrial drives up to large high-voltage machines in the tens of megawatts. Our facility and test systems are designed for heavy-duty, utility-scale equipment as well as critical process motors.
RKELC is ISO 9001:2015 certified and follows IEEE 43, IEEE 56, IEC 60034, API 541/546 standards. Our testing laboratory is NABL accredited (ISO 17025). We are also IECEx certified for explosion-proof equipment and maintain ISO 45001 (health & safety) and ISO 14001 (environmental) certifications. All work meets or exceeds OEM specifications.
Start with our Testing & Inspection service for condition assessment. If failures are detected, Root Cause Analysis identifies underlying issues. For repairs, our Repair & Rewinding service handles motors, generators, and transformers up to 50 MW. For upgrades or custom solutions, Engineering Services provides design and optimization. Repair addresses specific faults (bearings, shafts, insulation damage).Rewinding replaces the entire winding system with new coils, typically extending motor life by 20-30 years. Refurbishment is a complete restoration including mechanical, electrical, and cosmetic improvements to bring equipment to like-new condition. RKELC offers all three, with rewinding following IEEE 43/56 and IEC 60034 standards.
Use on-site services for testing, inspection, minor repairs, and emergency diagnostics when equipment cannot be moved.Workshop services are ideal for complete rewinding, major overhauls, balancing, and VPI (Vacuum Pressure Impregnation) which require specialized facilities. RKELC offers both, with 48-hour emergency on-site response and state-of-the-art workshop capabilities for comprehensive repairs.
Standard repairs take 2-4 weeks depending on size and complexity.Small motors (under 100 HP) may take 1-2 weeks, while large generators (10+ MW) can take 6-8 weeks. Emergency 48-hour service is available for critical failures. RKELC provides detailed timelines during the assessment phase, with regular updates throughout the project.
Yes, all RKELC repair and rewinding services include a comprehensive warranty.Standard repairs carry a 12-month warranty covering workmanship and materials. Rewinding services include extended warranties up to 24 months for critical equipment. All warranties are backed by our ISO 9001:2015 quality management system and include post-service support.
For critical breakdowns we offer a rapid response model with 24/7 contact, initial remote support and the ability to mobilise engineers quickly.Turnaround time depends on machine size and condition, but we can prioritise emergency jobs and discuss accelerated options once we understand your requirements.
We manufacture form-wound and random-wound stator coils, diamond coils for high-voltage machines, field coils for DC motors and generators, as well as key spares such as damper bars, insulation kits, bearings, seals and brush gear components. All products are built to OEM or better specifications with insulation systems up to class F and H, following IEEE and IEC guidelines.
Standard lead times are typically 2–4 weeks for coils and 4–8 weeks for custom motors, depending on complexity, material availability and approval of drawings. For urgent breakdowns we can offer expedited manufacturing on a case-by-case basis, once we review your requirements and confirm feasibility.
Our manufacturing is governed by ISO 9001:2015 quality systems, with incoming material inspection, in-process checks and final testing.Coils and motors are manufactured to relevant IEEE/IEC standards and, where required, designed to meet OEM drawings, client specifications or industry standards for special duties such as Ex/Explosion-proof or marine applications.
Yes. We routinely reverse-engineer obsolete coils and mechanical spares by measuring the existing components, analysing slot geometry, conductor sizes and insulation build, then creating detailed drawings and manufacturing new parts. For motors, we can also propose design improvements for efficiency, starting torque or cooling where beneficial.
For coils we typically need machine type, rating, voltage, slot details, insulation class, coil dimensions and photos of old coils if available. For custom motors we need the application details, required power, voltage, speed, mounting, environment (temperature, humidity, hazardous area classification) and any applicable standards or OEM references. The more detail you can share, the more accurate and optimised our proposal will be.
Yes, we are IECEx certified and have extensive experience with Ex-rated motors and generators for hazardous environments. We maintain strict compliance with explosion protection standards for oil & gas, chemical, and petrochemical applications.
Absolutely. We service equipment from all major manufacturers worldwide, including legacy and obsolete equipment. Our engineering team can reverse-engineer components and develop custom solutions when OEM parts are no longer available.
RKELC has deep expertise across power generation (serving NTPC, Adani, Tata Power), oil & gas (Reliance, ONGC), metals & mining (Tata Steel, JSW), marine & defence, and process industries. Our team includes specialists with 20-35+ years of experience in each sector, handling equipment up to 50 MW with proven reliability across India, Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa.
